With Thanksgiving right around the corner, you may have started to make your holiday plans. Thanksgiving traditions usually include watching football or the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade but make sure to plan some activities that bring everyone together. Remember to make your senior loved one comfortable this Thanksgiving with a few simple tips.
- Enjoy your time by cooking together! Encourage your loved one to lend a hand with the Thanksgiving feast by including them with some small tasks in the kitchen. Ask what they enjoy eating, if you should use less salt or if they have trouble chewing certain meals.
- Ask them to help with the kids. Arts and crafts can be great entertainment for both children and seniors. They can make a decoration for the table, place cards or even silly hats.
- Take a break and get outside. With the oven being on for several hours, it can become uncomfortable for older adults. Enjoy the last bit of fall with a family walk or a game of touch football.
Thanksgiving is a special time to show family and friends how much you appreciate them. Focus on some old memories to share during dinner and take turns sharing what you are thankful for.
